This is a fun kids craft for Halloween!
Making clay dough ornament is my favorite activity time with my kids. They love to paint it and see it displayed on our mantle or hang on our tree. Plus, you get to treasure their tiny hand and foot prints. It can be a fun annual activity to do with them so treasure the moment.
I’ve used flour, salt and water recipe. There’s another recipe which is better i guess if you’re not going to paint it because the final product is lighter. The flour and salt is more beige after you bake it. But i experimented with the cornstarch and baking soda and it didn’t turn out as good as the flour and salt. It was falling a part easily.
So, this is the recipe i recommend:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 cup warm water (add it slowly and start with half cup first)
Pre-heat oven to 200F. Mix all the ingredients until it becomes doughy. Flatten the dough on a baking sheet or oil spray a baking tray. Press your kid’s hand or foot on the dough. Use a cookie cutter or form it to the shape that you want. Use a stick and make a hole on top if you’re making it as an ornament. Place it in the oven and bake it for an hour.
Take it out of the oven and let it cool off to harden. Paint it with acrylic. It will also look cool on a shadow box and display in their bedroom. Enjoy!
